How To Sew On a Handmade Maker Label

You made the thing. Now put your mark on it.

Our handmade maker labels are an easy finishing detail to add to bags and other sewn projects, and you don’t need any special equipment to attach one. In this quick tutorial, I’m sewing one onto a finished bag with a vintage domestic sewing machine.

What You’ll Need

  • A handmade maker label
  • Your finished make
  • Sewing machine
  • Thread
  • A way to temporarily hold your label in place, I use double sided tape in 1/8" thickness in this video

Sewing On Your Label

Position your label where you want it on your finished make and secure it so it stays in place while you sew.

Starting near one corner, stitch close to the edge of the label. When you reach a corner, leave your needle down, lift the presser foot, and pivot your project. Lower the presser foot and continue along the next side.

Repeat around the label until you return to your starting point.

Once you've finished stitching, pull your threads through to the wrong side of your project and secure them there for a clean finish.

A Few Maker Notes

Our maker labels are handmade from natural cork leather and HTV. They're domestic machine friendly, so you don't need an industrial machine to sew them onto your projects.

Because each label is pressed and cut by hand, slight variations are part of the process.
